The Grinch That Stole My Christmas

What can I say? Other than a string of expletives that would probably get me banned!

First of all; No, I DO NOT have Covid. But apparently, according to the SA Covid Alert app, I was exposed to someone (anonymous) who has reportedly tested positive so I have to quarantine for 10 days from the exposure date, which was 19th December. As I was just alerted yesterday, I only have 6 days to go.

Before I got the alert on my phone, I had commented to a friend that it felt like the beginning of the lockdown, when everyone was hunkering down and fearful of going out. With the “mutant” virus exploding here in SA, it makes sense to limit exposure.

But I hadn’t planned on completely limiting my exposure! And I was so looking forward to seeing Mick and Debbie on Christmas day. But now, it will just be me and the dogs visiting from the main house.

I of course notified everyone I had seen or been close to during the previous 3 days, including my landlady, Adele who, sweetheart that she is, immediately offered to get me anything I need and said she’d be checking on me morning and evening!

But I have to consider myself fortunate that I am in a situation where I can go out on my lovely veranda (if it’s not raining) and enjoy the peace and quiet and the birds. And not stuck in an apartment or room somewhere in complete isolation.

So that’s it for now.

But I am working on a version of my lockdown diary which may or may not be the basis of a memoir. Just don’t hold me to it!

Happy Christmas, everyone.
